An Electricity Margin Notice (EMN) is NESO asking generators and suppliers for more spare capacity over the next few hours. It's an early warning used a handful of times a year, usually on still, cold or high-demand evenings. It doesn't mean power cuts are likely.

Frequency should stay between 49.8 and 50.2 Hz in normal operation, and 49.5 to 50.5 Hz is the statutory limit. Demand is Elexon's initial national demand outturn against NESO's latest national demand forecast for each half-hour, published shortly before it. Interconnector flows are 5-minute averages. Output now is an estimate: each farm's own plan for this half-hour (its Physical Notification to NESO), or the lower level NESO has instructed when it is paying the farm to turn down. Metered output is published about a week later, so it isn't shown. "Curtailed today" comes from the bid side of Elexon's indicative settlement stack, settled about 20 minutes after each half-hour. The 7-day figures add the six previous days, summed hourly on the server from Elexon's indicative settlement volumes and cashflows. A negative payment means the farm paid NESO to turn down: farms with a positive bid price give back what they would have earned. Regions come from each unit's transmission loss zone.
